In November, the Scottish Parliament voted unanimously to end period poverty, with the passing of the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill.
This means local authorities will have to ensure provision of period products, for anyone who needs them. Lib Dem MSPs supported this move and after a u-turn by the SNP Government the proposal became law.
The new law will mean local authorities must put in place provisions to supply period products as well as providing them free in schools, universities and colleges.
Liberal Democrat candidate for Edinburgh Central, Bruce Wilson, said: “It is fantastic that this has now become law despite the early objections of the SNP. This law will go a long way in ending needless period poverty in Scotland.”
