In February, Edinburgh’s SNP/Labour council proposed increasing social housing rents in its annual budget.
In a year of increasing unemployment and unprecedented pressure on incomes, such a move would have imposed a significant burden on those less able to pay.
Lib Dem councillors successfully campaigned to stop these increases which were especially unfair considering the sorry state of local social housing stock.
Edinburgh Central candidate, Bruce Wilson, met with the ‘Edinburgh Living Rents’ group to discuss how social housing and tenants’ rights could be improved and incorporated into Scottish Government policy.
Bruce said: “It is fantastic that our councillors successfully protected social housing rents. The SNP/Labour administration has clearly forgotten its role in serving constituents. “A Lib Dem government would build more and better homes that people can afford to rent.”
